I had 2 Dax bikes bought new, one blue 1983 ST50, one ruby 1987 ST70 both sold to friends, I always regretted it... Click on photos to enlarge! All photos shot with a SonyEricsson K800i, now with a K850i

Motor OK!
The motor started today, it only needed a new contact breaker, took a very small ride standing up, the clutch was stuck and the seat was missing. On Monday I will start disassembling the motor, to get it to the shop for brushing to a shiny finish.

Some restored Dax photos

More photos
This is the Dax after removing the easy parts. The guy who will brush the aluminium parts and chrome the fenders came by in the afternoon, and gave me a price for them. Expensive, but worth it.
We decided that the exhaust is beyond cosmetic repair, so I need to order one from Holland, along with a not very long preliminary list for other parts, like grips, heatshields and handlebars.

In the Galleries of CMS I saw some real masterpieces, and started having small panic attacks! Especially this by Bruno Vermeren, and this by André NEUKENS.

Chally!
Today I finished disassembling the body parts, and started wondering where to find a speedo. I found a Dutch site, CMS, Classic Motorcycle Supplies, they seem to have everything I could possibly need, and then some. I also found Honda Heaven, where Koen has found manuals, parts numbers and other useful stuff. A third very useful site is HobbyWiki's HondaDax with repair manuals and model identification. Another great site is Honda-Dax, with a very informative history piece, parts etc.
As I was browsing, Chris' next door neighbour came in, looking for a chat. We started talking, and he told me he had an '80s Honda Chally, which was the girly version of the Dax! I bargained a little and bought it. It's in much worse condition than the Dax, but had all the missing spare parts that I needed. Speedo, headlight, turn signals, wheels, AND I would have another engine just in case! It also has a 17mm carburetor from the SS50, which I could use.
This is after washing it in the gas station!

Speedo. With 32534 Km.

Some photos before taking everything apart

I've started a new project: The restoration of a Honda ST50 Dax I bought more than a year ago, but kept in the garage till it was "time".
Well, it's time! The first image is of a new 1972 ST50K2-5. The others are the "before" pics of my Dax!

Rust and dirt everywhere. Broken headlight, easy to find. Broken speedometer, hard to find...
My friend Chris will provide his shop "RPM" and his invaluable experience and knowledge. Without him I wouldn't even think of starting this...
